Everybody talks about eating enough vegetables, but only a few people talk about “the why” behind it. Do you know why you should include lots of vegetables in your diet? If you don’t, then let me spark light on you.
According to the Health.gov on 2015-2020 dietary guidelines, “117 million Americans have one or more preventable chronic disease because of their diet choice” (1). Does this scare you? Don’t let yourself fall into this category. Take control of your diet (eat more veggies) to make yourself healthier.
Vegetables are high in nutrients while being low in calories and fat. They have lots of vitamins, minerals, fibers, antioxidants to keep you going on a day-to-day basis. They help your cardiovascular health, lower your cholesterol, strengthen your bones, help detoxify your body, protects you from cancer, provide enough nutrients for your brain to function at its optimal capacity, and much more (2).
One particular vegetable doesn’t have all required nutrients contain, so it’s very important to mix and match your veggie choices (2). Some have good sources of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin K, Iron whereas others have high sources of vitamin C, magnesium, thiamine, and fibers.
I’m always in a hurry, so how do I make sure I consume enough vegetables in a day?
Now you understand you need to eat lots of veggies, let’s make your life an ease by providing you simple ways to include them in your diet. You can always eat them raw i.e. as a salad; you can cook them, bake them, steam them, or make Green Smoothie (my favorite) out of them.
You and I are alike because we both are always in a hurry. I want to sleep in until I’m about to be late for work. You do the same thing don’t you? Waking up, getting ready, and getting to work is already hard enough, forget about making food. Green smoothie saves me every time tho. I can eat them for breakfast, as snacks, for lunch, or for dinner.
Green Smoothies are the best source of nutrients and vitamins!
Green smoothies are made of different vegetables and fruits, so they contain all kinds of vitamins and minerals. You can pair different ingredients while making them, to ensure you are adding more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants each time you drink smoothies.
But how does it save you time?
Making green smoothie is super easy, and it doesn’t take more than 5 min. The best part is you can make them a night or two before, keep it in the fridge, and take it as you go.
You might be like it doesn’t look like it tastes well, but I promise you, don’t judge the book by its cover. It’s very yummy.
Recipe for Green Smoothie
There are 100 plus recipes for a green smoothie but this one is my favorite one out of all.
- 2 cups of organic mix greens – It’s better to use mix green than spinach because mix greens have other green leaves including spinach providing more vitamins and minerals.
- 1/2 medium banana
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond or coconut milk
- 1/4 cup of berries
- 1 scoop of protein super-food by Amazing Grass
- 1/4 cup of water
I use Amazing Grass Super-food protein powder because it contains 7 alkalizing greens including wheatgrass, alfalfa, Barley grass, spinach, spirulina, Chlorella, and broccoli. I use this protein powder because they comprise many green my body needs in one scoop. We know that nothing is better than eating an actual product but it’s hard to access them, so this protein powder gets the job done.
1. Put all the leafy greens in a blender first
2. Cut cucumber into slices and add them as well
3. Add all the other ingredients in a blender
4. Blend them together until it forms a smooth texture
5. Pour it into a glass and drink it immediately or keep it for later.
I hope you will enjoy this recipe as much as I do. Share it with your loved ones and give them reasons to eat their veggies. For more support come hang out with me in my private Facebook group. We will help each other accomplish our goals.
